Promoting Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism

The Saguaro Chapter, NSDAR, strives to fulfill the objectives of the DAR in the areas of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Each year, we choose service projects our chapter members can perform together or separately. We also attend patriotic events and encourage our members to perform community service.

With many service-oriented opportunities in the Daughters of the American Revolution, our members can find meaningful activities to choose from that further these DAR objectives.

If you are interested in joining us or learning more about DAR membership, contact us for information on our meeting dates and location.

Honoring Veterans at the Never Forget Garden

Historical Preservation

Maintains the Never Forget Garden

The Saguaro Chapter, NSDAR, maintains the Never Forget Garden in honor of veterans and unknown soldiers.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

“This garden is a living tribute to all of America’s Veterans and their families. In silence and respect, this is a place to remember why millions of Americans have fought and died for our liberty and freedom. Here we renew our promise to fulfill America’s sacred duty to never forget. Here we renew our mutual pledge to support them with our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”

Supports the DAR Library

Our chapter supports the DAR Library in Washington, D.C., through book donations related to historic preservation.

Packing Supplies for Students

Education

Sacaton Elementary School

Our chapter partners with Sacaton Elementary School located in the Gila Indian Community, Sacaton, Arizona. We shopped for and filled over 270 backpacks with needed supplies for Pre-K through fourth grade as requested by the school. Our members write individual encouraging notes for the students.

We received a grant for school supplies. We provided notebooks, extra pens, and pencils to teachers and provided individual reading books and backpacks to students.

Supports Indian Youth of America Summer Camp

Our chapter sponsors the Youth Camp Program of the Indian Youth of America, Inc., Sioux City, Iowa. Each summer, Indian youth come together to take part in the summer camps in Arizona and South Dakota. A variety of activities are provided such as sports, field trips, cultural education, leadership, and healthy living. Thousands of Indian children, ages 10-14 years old, have the opportunity to attend camp.

Meeting an Honor Flight

Patriotism

Supports Honor Flights

Our chapter’s Daughters serve breakfast to war heroes for their Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., departing from Phoenix, both in fall and spring. These are veterans from World War II, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam War.

Supports Walking Down Ranch

Our chapter donates canned food, blankets, furniture, and other household goods to Walking Down Ranch in Lakeside, Arizona. This organization supports homeless veterans through programs back into real jobs and homes again!

Participates in Wreaths Across America

Our chapter joins other community groups each December to place many wreaths on veterans’ graves.
