Promoting Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism

The Saguaro Chapter, NSDAR, strives to fulfill the objectives of the DAR in the areas of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Each year, we choose service projects our chapter members can perform together or separately. We also attend patriotic events and encourage our members to perform community service.

With many service-oriented opportunities in the Daughters of the American Revolution, our members can find meaningful activities to choose from that further these DAR objectives.

If you are interested in joining us or learning more about DAR membership, contact us for information on our meeting dates and location.

Honoring Veterans at the Never Forget Garden

Historic Preservation

Maintains the Never Forget Garden

The Saguaro Chapter, NSDAR, maintains the Never Forget Garden in honor of veterans and unknown soldiers.

“This garden is a living tribute to all of America’s Veterans and their families. In silence and respect, this is a place to remember why millions of Americans have fought and died for our liberty and freedom. Here we renew our promise to fulfill America’s sacred duty to never forget. Here we renew our mutual pledge to support them with our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”

Supports the DAR Library

Our chapter supports the DAR Library in Washington, D.C., through book donations related to historic preservation.

Educational Diorama of Valley Forge Encampment

Education

Supports Education
about the American Revolutionary War

General George Washington and the Continental Army endured six months of extreme conditions during the winter of 1777-1778 at the Valley Forge encampment. Located just 20 miles from British-occupied Philadelphia in eastern Pennsylvania, the strategic location provided a defensible position with access to essential resources, including clean water and firewood. However, shortages of food and clothing, combined with the harsh winter conditions and rampant diseases, led to the infamous misery experienced by the soldiers at Valley Forge.

Our chapter created this educational diorama of the encampment that presents details about the hardships soldiers faced. A chapter member and her father made the beautiful case; others painted tiny china objects and built the base. Red Mountain Library staff created a building using their 3‑D printer.

The diorama has been displayed at the American Legion Post 44 (Scottsdale), Combs Performance Arts Center (San Tan Valley), and two libraries within the Mesa Public Library system.

Meeting an Honor Flight

Our chapter’s Daughters serve breakfast to war heroes for their Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., departing from Phoenix, both in fall and spring. These are veterans from World War II, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam War.

Supports Walking Down Ranch

Our chapter donates canned food, blankets, furniture, and other household goods to Walking Down Ranch in Lakeside, Arizona. This organization supports homeless veterans through programs back into real jobs and homes again!

Our chapter joins other community groups each December to place many wreaths on veterans’ graves.
